Carlos Pellicer’s cathedra
In 1997, the year declared by the State of Tabasco Government as the year of Pellicer, when commemorating the centenary of his birth, the H. University Council approved the creation of the cathedra as a permanent tribute to the poet’s memory, with the aim that it will become an opportunity for reflection on the mentality, culture, history, social life and customs of Mexico and Latin America, and thus contributes to strengthen the roots and identity of these nations in the aspiration to the pellicerian spirit. The cathedra was launched with a master conference by the poet and philosopher Jaime Labastida. Other conferees who have come to this cathedra are: Enrique Florescano, John Saxe Fernandez, Cayetano Cantu, Alvaro Ruiz Abreu, Samuel Gordon, Alfonso Morales Cleveland, Canudas Enrique Sandoval, Hector Aguilar Camin, Ciprian Jasso Cabrera, Ramon Bolivar, Francisco Magaña. In the administration of the dean Candita V. Gil Jiménez, include: Gonzalo Martinez Corbalá, Jan de Vos, Alain Derbez and Leon Guillermo Gutierrez. Its official headquarters is the Juarez Institute.
Week of Juarez
Traditional civic, academic, artistic, cultural and sport celebration held annually during the month of March by the entire university community of this Leading Academic Institution, to honor the memory of Benito Juárez García, promoter of fertile seed from which our Alma Mater emerged the 1 January 1879, our Alma Mater: first through the Juarez Institute and since November 20, 1958 as a University. The program includes book presentations, master conferences, art exhibitions, films, speech and recitation contests and recitation, musical concerts, sports tournaments and the Athletic Race Benemérito de las Américas. The festivities conclude with the traditional Gallo Universitario.
Alternative Cultures Conferences
A space to promote expressions that help to strengthen the identity of the Universidad Juarez Autonoma de Tabasco and engage the institutional approaches and positions that modernity brings, reflecting the work and expressions of new paradigms because the communitary identity is built on the diversity of creations that the human being forges through time. Spanning pictorial and photographic demonstrations, performances, lectures, music, dance, etc. constitute the Alternatives Culture conferences
José Carlos Becerra Conferences
Established in the year 2000, Jose Carlos Becerra conferences are the UJAT´s homage to the poet from Tabasco, author of The Fall crosses the islands (El otoño recorre las islas). The Conferences are developed annually from 21st to 28th May (birth and death of the poet). They include master conferences, round tables, poetry readings, book editions, fine arts, floral offerings and contests. Authors as Dionicio Morales, José Eduardo Beltran, Ernesto Lumbreras, José Tiquet, Cabrera Ciprián Jasso, Angelica Martinez Valero and Jorge Priego, among others, have participated in them. In 2006, during the administration of the rector Candita V. Gil Jimenez, the 70th year of the poet’s birth was held, it included, among other activities, the master conferences of writers Hugo Gutiérrez Vega and Francisco Hernandez, and the plastic exhibition of the Mexican engraver Mario Reyes. The Conferences are carried out with the support of the poet’s sisters: Deifilia and Maria Cristina Becerra Lacroix.
UJAT Anniversary
During November the University commemorates the date of its opening and does so through a vast program of activities, which include book presentations, art exhibitions, master conferences, artistic presentations, plays, recognitions delivery. This event usually concludes on November 20, the day of the university foundation.
University Book Fair ( FulTabasco)
The FULTABASCO seeks to promote understanding and exchange of university library collections, the promotion of reading, books and their creators in general, and encourage the training of audiences interested in the various expressions of science and culture.
Deployed in an area of 1,200 square meters in the Plaza civica de Rectoría in the Cultural Zone, where about eight thousand people pass a day, the FUL becomes the maximum scenario where book culture reaches its highest expression.
